MOK music fest

The 2014 Mull of Kintyre Music Festival [MOKfest] is bringing  Dundee rockers, The View and the award winning Braebach to headline the 2014 Saturday night concerts on 23rd August. [Braebach were Folk Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2012.]

The Festival runs from 20th – 24th August and will feature The View [above] at the ‘all standing’ concert in the Victoria Hall in Campbeltown and Braebach [below] at the Traditional Concert in Campbeltown Heritage Centre.

The Mitchells Glengyle Dalriada Connections Concert on Sunday 24th is headlining Breton guitarist, Soig Siberil, who will also tutor a special guitar workshop over the weekend of the event.

Campbeltown’s own super-group, Slainte Davaar Allstars, finish the weekend as headline band at this year’s Survivors Night – a well named event.

The Festival can also confirm that the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band is to make a welcome return to MOKfest, in their first appearance since 2009. Firm festival favourites like Young Folk Night, Festival Parade, Doon the Green, The Saturday Sessions, music workshops and cultural walks will also all be part of this year’s festival, which as usual offers something for everyone.

There are plans on the go to introduce a new Gaelic Concert – aiming to extend the length of the Festival by an additional day, with more news on this once as the plans are firmed up.

Event Manager, Iain Johnston from J.I.G. Event,s says: ‘We are really excited about this year’s event and are delighted to have secured such top headline acts.

‘The View is a truly top class band and it will be great to hear hits such as ‘Same Jeans’ and ‘Wasted little DJ’s’ played in the Victoria Hall.  We are also delighted to get Braebach to headline the Traditional concert this year.

‘Breton guitarist, Soig Siberil, who was a founding member of Gwertz, Den and latterly the Celtic Fiddle Festival, makes a rare appearance in Scotland at the Dalriada Connections Concert.  We hope to have news soon on the bands for the Festival Ceilidh as well as the support acts for the Saturday night concerts.’

With other elements like Machrihanish Dunes Sound of Kintyre Pipe Band, Campbeltown Brass Band performances and children’s entertainment from The Funky Chicken, the event promises a weekend of music and fun for all the family.

MOKfest will be releasing further updates on the rest of the bands over the next few weeks.  Full information on the festival – always one not to miss and with a huge fanbase from all over the place, all streaming in to Campbeltown – more information can be found here on the MOKfest website.
